My friends are awesome.

As in all of my friends..on Twitter, Facebook etc.

Last weekend, I got a lovely message left on my phone from my friend @RumfordJohnny about a rather interesting proposition. It involved Ellis Hobbs, a football camp and writing. Those are definitely on the list things that I love. As I got further details, I got in touch with @TDavenport88 and got the details.

My task was to get the word out on Ellis Hobbs III Football Camp in hopes of getting more kids to join and get an awesome experience. Easy enough right? And then I was told that if I wanted, I could have the opportunity to chat with Ellis Hobbs himself about the camp.

Wait, what? If I wanted to? Yes. I’d WANT to talk to Ellis Hobbs. Duhskies.

All of a sudden, Wednesday afternoon while I was in a huge meeting with all my managers, the station receptionist runs into the conference room and says that “There’s someone on the line for Kisha..he said something about football and the Patriots?”

Like a boss, I smugly said, “Yes, I’ll take the call” as I walked out of the conference room and then ran to my desk to make sure I didn’t miss the call. It was a representative for Mr. Hobbs and just wanted to verify who I was. Then he said, “Ellis says he knows you, have you guys met before?” In my head, I fainted and then wanted to say, “Yeah I’m pretty awesome so that’s probably why he knows my name.” But what I really said was, “Oh that’s weird. Maybe he’s read my stuff on PatriotsInsider.com

Doubt it but it was all I could come up with. I doubt that he was a fan of my ridiculous Tweets either.

Fast forward 15 minutes later and my phone rings and I hear, “Hi Kisha, it’s Ellis Hobbs.”

And what does this genius say in response to this? Oh hey dude what’s up?

Dude? Really Kisha? Not like we were BFF’s from college and it was like us catching up. I’ve never met this man and I definitely called him dude. My mother was so proud.

About 20 minutes later, I learned some great information about just how these football camps work and learned even more about Ellis Hobbs. He was an easy-going and very nice guy. Loves his …

This the definition that UrbanDictionary.com provided when I searched for the term “pink hat”. I took the liberty to leave out the vulgar language that tends to be accepted throughout most of the site.

As far as this definition is concerned, it’s a bit abrasive and was most likely written by man…and insensitive one at that.

I’m not usually a fan of labels in any sort environment. In middle school, I got grouped with the “sk8ers” (yes, with the number eight in the middle) when in all honesty, I wasn’t even that good.

In high school, I was a speech kid because of my involvement with the speech and debate team (where the term ‘Master Debater’ was thrown around far too often..they were clever back then).

Both sucked. You make the most of it when you’re a kid but it doesn’t make accepting it any easier.

Early Thursday morning, a good twitter friend, @Russ_Goldman of mine brought up a an interesting topic that I’ve heard of before but have never really given it any serious thought:

Is the term Pink Hat offensive/degrading?

It seemed like a pretty simple topic. The die-hard sports fan in me understand why this word came into play from living in Texas (with a large population of sports fans) and then moving to New England where there seems to be an even greater amount of fans for a lot of different sports.  I despised the people who were all of a sudden New England Patriots fan because they saw that they won the Super Bowl or because they received news that Tom Brady was kind of a looker. And yes, most of these people that I came across were women but don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of men who just as guilty.

As I got older and matured, I realized that I have no place to judge people on whether they’re like me, who’d shell out thousands of bucks for a chance to go to a Patriots  Super Bowl or just  someone that will just as happy rooting for any team when any game is on. To each his/her own right?

Well, the more the tweets continued from this morning, the more I saw how someone like Russ could find it degrading. He has a wife and daughter who just happens to wear pink paraphernalia in support of their Patriots. There is nothing …

I know that as a football “insider”, I should be wicked good at predicting the winners of games. Heck, even be able to give you the score but to my (and my significant others’ ) dismay, I am terrible at making predictions.

I can almost guarantee that the opposite of my pick will win the game. Case in point, look at this tweet:

This tweet pretty much says it all. Earlier in the week, I scoffed at the idea that the Seattle Seahawks were any real threat. Obviously, my judgment was a little off. I guess when you’re surrounded by teams like the Rams and the 49ers, it’s easy to be overlooked come playoff time.  Forgive Matt Hasselbeck for overlooking your team but to be honest, nobody was rooting for you to win against, in my mom’s opinion ‘the best team with the sweetest quarterback’ ever. The New Orleans Saints’ had every analyst giving them the win.

To be honest, I think the only people I heard saying that the Seahawks were going to win were the random people that call into WEEI and the Sports Hub wanting to be that caller than will make the ‘other’ call.  I’m usually a fan of the underdog as I grew up watching Rudy and cheering for the likes of Darren Sproles and Danny Woodhead.

I was completely surprised by this out of nowhere win by the Seahawks. Looking at the numbers, Hasselbeck was 22 for 35 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns. You know who usually puts up numbers like that, especially in the playoffs? Not Matt Hasselbeck.

I needed a Hasselbeck picture and this one was just way too good not to use. Ladies,  I know you’ll enjoy it. Gentlemen, sorry.

It has a really creepy artsy tone to it.

You’ve got to give Seattle some credit though, coming into the playoffs with the worst regular season record and the first division winner with a losing record (7-9). The addition of running back Marshawn Lynch early in the  season not only helped secure them the win against the Saints but it also gave Lynch a chance to make a post season appearance. Something that he would never have gotten with the Buffalo Bills.

Bravo Seahawks. I wish ya’ll the best but I really don’t know if your offense will hold up against the Bears and Brian Urlacher..wait, …

Where do I begin?

This weekend was by far, one of the busiest I’ve had all year. Except for maybe when I have to work a soccer game then a football game at the stadium, then it becomes a little tiring. I guess we can start in the order of which the events occurred.

SATURDAY: Boston Sports Blogapalooza II – Boston, MA

Man, this event is probably one of my favorite things to attend. Thanks to the hard work and diligence of Mr. Joe Gill, this event has transformed from a small networking event in May to THE sports blogging event of the New England area.  When the first ever Blogapalooza happened in May, it was truly my first experience in networking and actually putting a face to many of the blogs that I read on a daily basis.  Needless to say, I was pretty nervous to see exactly how I compare to some of the bigger names.

I networked my butt off with everyone from Ian of The Rap Sheet of the Boston Herald to Ian Logue of the huge site www.PatsFans.com. Unfortunately, due to  some prior engagements neither of the Ian’s were able to make it to the event. Fret not, there were some other pretty big names that were present at the Blogapalooza II event. I met Robert Hyldburg Jr., the author of “Total Patriots” ( a book that I use way too often when writing articles for Patriots Insider).  It was pretty incredible to speak with him on some the specifics of how the book came into existence and also reminiscing about some Patriots history.

What more can a dedicated Patriots fan/aspiring sports writer ask for?

Oh, but there was even more awesomeness to come from this event.

There are a group of dedicated Patriots people on twittter that I have often had the pleasure of being associated with. These people are some of the most interesting, hilarious and coolest football tweeps on the twitter and it’s not too often that I get a chance to meet them in person and talk about the one thing that has brought us together: Patriots Football.

One of these individuals trekked all the way from the west coast to network with some Boston’s best. Mike Dussault, or known to most of Patriots Nation as @PatsPropaganda (www.patspropanda.com). If you haven’t already, please check out Mike’s work.  …
