I didn’t make it to the 2009 Draft. In fact, during the first day of the Draft I was stuck in a sound booth at Xavier Auditorium working for a JWU Players version of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”, although entertaining, it just didn’t compare to being in Radio City Music Hall. I got a total of 10 text messages and 15 people asking me how the Draft was..and I had to say that I wasn’t there. It was tough and I’m pretty sure that I would’ve been going nuts EVERY TIME the Patriots traded down. By the 3rd round, I probably would’ve had a heart attack. So after all is said and done this is the 2009 Draft class for the New England Patriots:

1st Round
Nobody because Bill Belichick likes to drive Pats fans crazy.

2nd Round
Patrick Chung, S, Oregon
Ron Brace, NT, Boston College
Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut
Sebastian Vollmer, Houston

3rd Round
Brandon Tate, WR, North Carolina
Tyrone McKenzie, LB, South Florida
Rich Ohrnberger, G, Penn State

4th Round
Yeah, nopes.

5th Round
George Bussey, OL, Louisville

6th Round
Jake Ingram, LS, Hawaii
Myron Pryor, DT, Kentucky

7th Round
Julian Edelman, WR, Kent State
Darryl Richard, DT, Georgia Tech

Honestly, I can’t complain about who we picked. I was banking on them picking up Darius Butler from Connecticut ASAP. Butler, like I mentioned in the “Cutting Corners” article in Patriots Insider, is built very similarly to Ellis Hobbs. Unfortunately, we traded Hobbs for more picks in 2010. This is an entirely new issue, I’ve had people in class ask me why Bill did this. Folks, I don’t know him personally. I can’t tell you why we just busted out Hobbs card during the Draft. Honestly, I think its for the better. The 5’9 corner is smaller than most and has had just over 162 solo tackles in 4 seasons. He was an excellent kick returner and has been a strong asset to the New England Patriots. But maybe we just don’t need him anymore..he was sent to Philly to join former Patriot, Asante Samuel. Let’s hope this move was for the better. Butler, please don’t be a bust.

MICHAEL VICK IN ARENA FOOTBALL

MICHAEL VICK IN ARENA FOOTBALL

According to Yahoo! Sports, the New York Firebirds have offered Michael Vick an opportunity to play some arena football. This is a great idea. Not only does the team guarantee that he would have to donate $100,000 to the local humane society but I think this would be great way for Vick to be substantially humbled. His talent is undeniable, but his actions are very hard to ignore. Plus, he’s probably be a beast in arena football, who knows, maybe he’ll stimulate the much needed market for the sport.
With the smaller field, he’ll probably break 13,000 yards in his first season.

4Th and Long with Michael Irvin!

OMG. Does anybody watch Spike TV? Besides the History Channel and ESPN, Spike TV is definitely one of my favorite channels. On May 18, 2009 they are going to premiere a new show. “4th and Long with Michael Irvin” with a very Invincible-esque feel to it, the show revolves around 12 players who will be battling for a chance to have a spot on the Dallas Cowboys roster. The coaches will be Bill Bates and Joe Avezzano. The prospective players will live, breathe and train at the Cotton Bowl. This is a brilliant idea. Among all this drama that surrounds wide receivers in the NFL, it’s good to see a Hall of Famer trying to make some dreams come true. The 12 contestants vary from former members of college championship teams to some who have been cut twice by the Kansas City Chiefs. Similar to shows like “Rock of Love” , some of the guys also have nicknames, my favorite? The 25 year-old defensive back from Mississippi aptly named Ahmaad “Silent Assassin” Smith. Bret Michaels can’t compete with Michael Irvin running drills with NFL hopefuls. Please watch.
I’d try out for this show for 2 things:
1. To even have the slightest chance to play in the beautiful new billion dollar stadium.
2. My mom would be very happy if I had any reason to go back to Texas
Just think about it:

…standing at towering 5’2 and weighing in at 120..(ok, maybe 125) lbs! Hailing from the Rio Grande Valley and starting at wide receiver..Kisha “Money” Tapangan!
Did we mention she was awesome?
*crowd noises*

hahaaahh I can dream.

Yes. I had all these elaborate plans to go to the draft, but as of now, I really don’t think it’s going to work out. My best friends don’t think they can make it and you can’t go to the NFL Draft alone, especially if you’re a female. I’d probably either, get into a lot of arguments, or make a lot of new friends!

If anyone is serious about going, let me know. I’m still willing to plan a weekend trip to the city to see some other die-hard football fans. Plus, it’ll make it seem like the season isn’t too far away.

Read it. Hate it or Love it, I wanna know. Give me your thoughts.

Ok, back to the news.

LONGER NFL SEASON? Yessssssss

Is it true? Can it be? Is Roger Goodell actually considering extending the season? I have to admit, I think that 17 games would be a good change to the league. 18? I think that may just be too many. I’d love to have another week to yell at people and east massive amounts of delicious snacks, but I think I would be selfish not to think of the players having to play through two extra weeks. Some of the biggest arguments I’ve heard consisted of the fact that a longer season would take away the “edge” of just having 16 games. That it would affect all the records that were made, etc etc. Truth is, they’ve increased the season before and it was for the better. Who wouldn’t want to see another Wes Welker TD catch? or the Giants just possibly lost more games? I’d love for both of those things to happen.

SIDENOTE: This kid in my class today asked me if it hurt when I jumped the bandwagon on becoming a Patriots fan. Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know that being a Pats fan since 1998 was considered jumping the bandwagon. He went on to tell me that I didn’t know anything about football and that the Patriots are a joke. Ok, first of all this guy was a Giants fan. Sorry Santos, but this is why there are very few (VERY FEW) Giants fans that I like. Note that this guy has no idea who I am or even the fact that I’m in LOVE with football. So I asked him, “Was it always easy to admit that you’re a Giants fan? Or was that just a recent development?” This was a good guy, funny but I think he needs to pump the breaks in assuming a few things:

1. That all people that are Pats fans are bandwagon jumpers, especially when you’re team barely won the Super Bowl 2 seasons ago.
2. That girls don’t know anything about football. It’s not rocket science people. Not that every girl is going to know the difference between a slant route or a hook and ladder, but come on, give us a break.

MARCH MADNESS IS ALMOST OVER
Ok, so I won’t rant anymore about this. All I have to say is that I only have one team left. UConn. That’s it. All my other Final Four picks are eliminated. I give up. If UConn can win this whole thing, then there is a slight hope for my bracket.

So I leave you with this poll.
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
