I was ready.

I was in pajamas, just finished some United BBQ and had my laptop open and ready to blog my little heart out about part 2 of A Football Life: Bill Belichick.

..and then I check my DVR realized that it didn’t record. I think Family Guy, Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Office took up 95% of the space. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed.

Marc Sessler of NFL.com did a a great job of highlighting the best of the second part. Check out his article here.

I really wanted to spend my Friday evening raving about it but I guess it’ll have to wait until my DVR clears up. Sorry!

Ok so here are some questions that I’ve been pondering leading up to Sunday’s match up against the randomly awesome Buffalo Bills (Come on, don’t act like you aren’t surprised that they’re 2-0)

#1 Is Ryan Fitzpatrick for real?
From the sounds of it, he seems to be. Given that the two games he won were against subpar teams..but it was the come from behind win against the Raiders. At one point, they were down 20-3.The final score? 38-25.

#2 Is this no huddle offense for real?
Mike Reiss pointed out an interesting response from Bill Belichick about the no-huddle.

“I think we all see, the way the game is now, there are different breaks in the game at all points in time. You can have the momentum, and positive things going in your favor, and we stop and review a play, review a score, or a play gets challenged, or a player gets injured, a beach ball rolls on to the field. It could be a dog runs out there. It could be anything. Streakers, you could have that.”

He makes a good point. With all these new changes to the rules of the game, something like a no-huddle (when done well) could be just as dangerous as having Tom Brady as your quarterback. In the case for the Patriots, they have Tom Brady AND a blossoming no-huddle.

Not to say that Brady is a pro at the no huddle just yet but it has been something else that defenses have had to deal with.

So the simple answer to this question? Yes, it’s getting pretty real.

#3 Who will be the “Other” tight end?
It seems like the family reunion is over …

Every once in awhile, I get invited to events that make me feel kinda special.

Last night’s event hosted by Comcast Sportsnet was one of those events.

I was invited to a pretty stellar event last night presented by Comcast Sportsnet called New England Football Night and it was their announcement party that Patriots legends Troy Brown and Ty Law will be joining Comcast Sportsnet as Expert Patriots Analysts.

Before I go on, I want to give Joe Gill of Boston Sports Then & Now for putting my name on the list with some of the best people in Patriots news in New England. I was honored and humbled to be around people who have made my job as a blogger so much easier with their extensive Patriots coverage.

Not to mention, it’s always a blast to catch up with some of my favorite tweeps:

@ErikFrenz | @NoontimeSports | @MellyHocking  | @JoeyMurr | @Russ_Goldman  | @InBostonSports  | @Andy_Deossa

Please give all of these guys a follow, they’ll provide you with some of the best Patriots insight and analysis..plus they’re all rather entertaining.

With some killer beer options and tasty snacks, Waxy O’Connors was a great spot to hold the event and the food was also rather tasty. One of the more interesting dishes served? Chicken Parm Egg Roll (Satisfied my love for Italian food AND egg rolls. ) Look at the rest of their menu…all of it sounds delicious.

There were some laughs and great questions that bloggers and fans alike asked to Mayo and Brown. Moderators Tom E. Curran and Gary Tanguay did a fantastic job keeping the Q&A fluid.

The best thing about these types of events is that fans, like myself, get a glimpse of how these players are and their true personalities. It also shows the type of relationship they have with the guys at Comcast Sportsnet. It really felt like they were just friends catching up and we were lucky enough to listen in.

I’ll be working on an extensive piece for Patriots Insider about the event some of the things that Mayo and Brown discussed about the upcoming season…I’ll post it when it’s up! :)

For now, here is a lovely slideshow of the awesome pictures I took at the event.

This is the season when the Patriots will get the most Whaaaaaa?!’s from me.

I was barely getting used to the fact that Chad Ochoicinco and Albert Haynesworth were going be part of the New England Patriots and now this shenanigans?

If you haven’t already heard, the Patriots made their final set of cuts to keep the roster at 53. Here are the players that were cut from the team:

S Brandon Meriweather (Whaaaaa?!)
DL Landon Cohen
LB Niko Koutouvides (Was kinda rooting for this guy..mostly because he has the same name as my little broseph)
DE Eric Moore
RB Sammy Morris (Saw this coming sadly..)
WR Brandon Tate (Ditto)
WR Tiquan Underwood
OL Thomas Austin
RB Eric Kettani
DB Ross Ventrone (Thor Jr. didn’t make the cut…again..sigh)
DE Markell Carter
LB Aaron Lavarias
DE Alex Silvestro
TE Lee Smith
TE Will Yeatman

Let’s go through this list starting with the most surprising of the cuts:
Brandon “Big Bang Clock” Meriweather. A first-rounder that has a growing fan base thanks to some hilarious comments and his memorable rap “career”…especially with the song “VIP on SWOLE”

It surprises me that a player they’ve already invested four season with could be easily released, almost out of nowhere. What is left in the Safety position are Pat Chung, Sergio Brown, Josh Barrett and James Ihedigbo.  Does that scream awesome, dominance or even just decent coverage? Not so much. Brandon Meriweather was not some scrub that had a few good games, he was a two-time Pro Bowler  When he and Chung were healthy and played together, it worked well.

But it was difficult to overlook the fact that during this preseason, Meriweather wasn’t playing with with starters and stars. He was with the backups, as if he was trying out for a job as much as the newcomers were.

When they asked Bill Belichick how Meriweather was doing? He pretty much said,

“He’s doing aight”

Aight isn’t going to cut it if you want to be on the Belichick’s final team.

I guess all things pointed to Meriweather’s departure but it has made me a little interested/concerned for the defense.

Sammy Morris, a everything-you-can-think-of type of player. He was a running back, provided coverage on special teams and even could be a receiver if you wanted him to be. But the fact of the matter is, Morris is getting old and specialists

Mind: Blow

This is how my day ended today.
I know I say that my work takes over my life and honestly, it’s moments like this when it’s all worth it.

We’re launching a brand new site at work that has awesome written all over it and I’ve become so invested in it that it’s been tough to get all football’d out as much as I’d like…but that won’t be happening once the season starts and tickets to the first ever Patriots game of the 2011 season is one hell of a way to get my butt in gear as far being the Patriots Insider that I’ve been in the past.

I give so much credit to people who have the full time jobs AND then come home and blog their nights away. It was so much easier for me before since I was just out of college and hell, I thought I was going to be a full time blogger.

So, the game starts at 7:30 pm tomorrow and this will be my first time attending event after I left Gillette Stadium as their Check In Supervisor (best college job EVER). I’m psyched. Considering that the last time I was able to go to a game was on Halloween and I paid for that whole thing. All $100+ of it. Also, Ryan has seriously got it made with all the perks I’ve gotten from my job. :)

Now for the real question…
What should I be looking for in this game?

It’s been like a whirlwind romance when it comes to this Patriots team coming together and it feels like I’m just getting to know everyone and what they have to offer.

There are the things to expect:

- Brady being awesome (duh.)
- The Tiny Dude Troupe ( Welker, Woodhead, Edelman, Branch..)
-  The Wide Receivers…like all 35 of them

And then there’s the exciting stuff:

- Albert Haynesworth..if he’s healthy, motivated, getting paid..etc
- Chad Ochocino (He’s really a Patriot right?!)
- The ever-so-mysterious pass rush
- 4-3 whaaaaaa?!

Is there anything that you guys would want me to keep an eye on? Let me know here or on twitter and I’ll tweet it all up.

Here’s the start of the season and getting to sit in my favorite stadium to experience the beginning of what’s bound to be a pretty sweet year.

Go Pats!…
