Man, I sure do love game days. After yesterday’s ever-so-lovely snow day, today looks to be a perfect day for football at Gillette Stadium.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com tweeted this pic AFTER the snow removal crew at the stadium cleaned it up. Those people do some fantastic work!

So what’s in store for today? Although it was not as crazy media-wise as it was for the game against the Broncos, this week was still filled with off-the-field chatter. For Patriot Nation, Ed Reed’s comments about Joe Flacco was awesome. It was a team’s own defense doing the trash talking for us and all that the Patriots have to do is just keep quiet and keep on keepin’ on.  Like it’s been said, if I was a Ravens’ fan, I’d be pretty irritated. I don’t want a quarterback who will just shrug his shoulders and say, “woe is me” when his own teammates are calling him out. Not that he has to be a jerk about it but a simple, “Well, I’m just focused on playing my best this weekend for my team” answer would’ve been enough to shut that defense up…you know, all BB style.

Ok, that was my Ravens Joe Flacco is whiny rant. If you want to hear their comments, check out the video.

Here’s my prediction for the game:

Patriots 35
Ravens 21

Hope everyone enjoys the game! Be sure to follow me on twitter as I will most likely by tweeting it up during the game. :)

Halfway through the Patriots and Broncos game on Saturday, it quickly changed from a playoff game to a scrimmage between a varsity and JV team. I’ll admit that I was part of the hype going into this game. I had my fears about Tim Tebow and his fourth quarter heroics, the underrated defense and the ability of the team to adapt to make Tim Tebow successful. All of those things combined set the stage for Saturday’s game to be, if nothing else, exciting.

Before we dive into everything Patriots, I have to talk about that INSANE San Francisco and New Orleans game?! That has got to be one of the BEST football games I’ve ever seen. Period.

Between the lead tradeoffs to two quarterbacks playing at an exceptionally high level, I couldn’t have asked for a better game to get me ready for the Patriots and Broncos game. One of the best moments of this game was after veteran tight end Vernon Davis makes the game-winning catch, he couldn’t help but get emotional. How could you blame him? He’s been with the 49ers since 2006 and this was only his first playoff win. Check out this amazing video of Davis after the catch, I promise that you’ll get emotional too.

Man, that was awesome.

Ok back to the Patriots!

Where do I start? We had tight ends playing running back, a quarterback punting and impressive showings at defensive end.

Aaron Hernandez kills it as a running back
Number 81 managed 61 yards on the ground AND caught four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. This is a perfect example of one my most favorite things about this Patriots team. Regardless of how successful or how good they’ve become, the desire to contribute and play as a team never stops. Hernandez wasn’t just good at it, he looked like he was having a pretty good time doing it. Hernandez spoke about it during the press conference.

I’d say I was surprised, but I was happy to be doing it, and I hope I can do a little more of it. I just do what the coaches ask me, and they put me in position to try to make plays, and I just try to help the team and just try to get the big gain.

Tom Brady can punt like no other
Holy moly. How shocked were you when this …

Through my constant browsing of my Facebook, I came across something that made me laugh. Apparently at some point in time, I joined a group calledPurple Haze – The Real Name of the Ravens Defense Although I do have an affinity for hilarious Facebook groups, I found this one to be interesting and seemed to be fitting as the Patriots first game after a pretty eventful bye week is against the Baltimore Ravens. Purple Haze might have been what the Patriots saw after last season’s terrible playoff loss AT HOME against the Ravens (note that it was also the coldest day EVER and one of the longest days at work for me).  I don’t think that it’s going to the same kind of game this time around.

The Patriots performed better than any of my expectations against the Miami Dolphins, I think that by anyone’s standards, they were playing at a much elevated level. Quarterback Tom Brady was 19/24 passes and even managed a touchdown. The real credit for the ‘W’ is all to the defense that, so far, has only had glimmers of success this season.  Luckily, for their upcoming match-up against the Ravens the challenge doesn’t involve a Wildcat offense, a killer rushing attack or even a ballsy quarterback.

As I’ve discussed for some time now, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco doesn’t really strike fear into his weekly opponents. Not to mention, he looks VERY similar to one of my exes, who also is from NJ, so it’s always odd watching him play. Flacco, who is now in his third year as the Ravens starter has built his career on being “just enough” of a quarterback.

Don’t believe me? Check out some of Flacco’s stats so far (including the first five games of this season).  Thanks to Pro-Football-Reference for being so awesome and helpful.

Overall career record : 20-12

Average pass completion percentage 2008-Present: 60.1 %

Total touchdowns: 40

Passes completed: 660/1,097

Total interceptions: 30

Total sacks: 73

AVERAGE JOE (FLACCO) and that’s exactly the type of quarterback that the Ravens needed. Nothing flashy or too complicated. Flacco has every possible target imaginable to throw to: wide receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason will be there and most likely be open. In the backfield, Le’Ron McClain and Ray Rice are listed as probable and have a 75% chance of playing.

To be honest, …
